Athens Website Information Architecture Changes Advised

I once worked as an subject matter expert for a famous building product manufacturer catalogue service n the architectural industry. I was an advisor on content and helped build a website whose creation cost over twelve million US dollars. So in looking at the Athens website through somewhat informed eyes, I saw the need to conduct a fast review of it. I conducted an independent AI-assisted research and policy analysis to assess how effectively the Township of Athens website serves as a public information source.

The exercise looked beyond the appearance of the website. It examined its information architecture—the way information is organized, labelled, grouped and connected so residents can find what they need. This is called the taxonomy of the site.

As part of the analysis, the Athens website was compared with websites of surrounding municipalities. The conclusion was straightforward: Athens has much of the basic information residents need, but the way that information is organized makes it unnecessarily difficult to find and, particularly, to follow how municipal decisions are made.

The good news is that much of this can be improved without replacing the website or creating large amounts of new content. The first step is simply organizing what is already there more effectively. READ MORE HERE
